Kolymvari beach
Kolymvari is a medium-sized seaside town in the north-western part of Crete. It is the town farthest towards the west on the Chania Coast.
Kolymvari beach
The beach in Kolymvari is a long and not very wide stone beach, which stretches all the way to the neighbouring town, Tavronitis. There are some sections with sun lounges and sunshades. There are also showers and toilets at the beach. Visitors coming by car can park it just behind the beach.
With only a few and low-built hotels, the beach is relatively undisturbed and the view to the mountains on the Rodopou peninsula is magnificent. The beach has been awarded EU’s Blue Flag.
Child-friendliness
It is a stone beach and the stones reach all the way into the water. This makes the beach less child-friendly. Remember bathing shoes.
Water sports
Kolymvari beach offers almost all kinds of water sports, including water skis, jet skis, banana boat and the classic water cycle.
Beach restaurants
There is a new beach café close to the beach and there are several cafés and restaurants close-by, at the western part of the beach.
Kolymvari holiday resort
In Kolymvari, the hotels are not close to each other, which makes the town a perfect place for people who wish to have a quiet and relaxed holiday. The best hotel in town is the Avra Imperial Beach, but also the Chryssana Beach Hotel gets good reviews from the guests.
There are several small shops and a fine selection of restaurants and cafés. There is also a big supermarket in the town and a small market in the streets every Friday. The bus service to the larger towns of Platanias and Chania is good if a day of shopping is on the top of your list.
Placed far to the east, Kolymvari is a great starting point for visiting Falasarna and Balos, which are two of Crete’s most beautiful natural beaches. A car is required to access the beaches, but it is possible to rent one in Kolymvari.
Kolymvari map
Kolymvari is close to the mountainous peninsula Rodopos, which often provides great shelter against the wind and waves for beachgoers in Kolymvari. If the map is moved towards the east, you can see the other holiday villages on the Chania coast.
